Simon Niklaus’ career

My career path is unusual because I entered Swiss universities through adult education. I have knowledge of business, natural sciences, and technology. I have experience in teams of all sizes and in various economic sectors.

Academic experience

I am currently studying at the University of St.Gallen (HSG). I am completing the master’s preparatory stage (pre-master’s), in which all compulsory modules of the bachelor’s degree in business administration are completed within one year. I am already officially enrolled in the master’s program in general management, which I will start in the summer of 2026. My favorite modules at the HSG so far are strategic management and marketing.

From 2022 to 2025, I studied at the University of Zurich for my Bachelor of Science UZH. For my minor with 60 ECTS, I studied at the Faculty of Business and Economics (OEC) and took modules in business administration, economics, and banking and finance. I liked the modules covering the following topics best: entrepreneurship, banking, finance, and risk calculation. For my major, I studied at the Faculty of Science (MNF) and took modules from all areas of natural sciences, with a particular interest in the interface of business and technology.

From 2020 to 2022, I completed my vocational baccalaureate and the Passerelle program. These two school years provided me with a basic knowledge of business administration, economic history, advanced mathematics, and many other subjects.

Experience in SMEs and large companies

In 2015, I started a four-year apprenticeship as a metalworker at the large company Ernst Schweizer AG. During my training, I encountered numerous management styles, had contact with customers, and was able to learn a very wide range of technical and interpersonal skills. I gained a deep insight into the construction industry. I took on joint responsibility for the technical training of junior staff during my final year of apprenticeship.

After completing my vocational training, I worked for several months at an SME, where I was able to develop further skills, including a high degree of personal responsibility and independence. This period taught me how company structures and organization differ between SMEs and large companies.
